Welcome!
The Fort Nelson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is located in Portsmouth, Virginia, one of 15 chapters in District I of the Virginia State Society (Virginia DAR).
We are women of varied ages and backgrounds - married and single, professional women and students, moms and grandmothers - who share a common interest: we proudly trace our lineage to a man or woman who aided in achieving American independence.
Please join us. Our meetings are held on the first Thursday morning of each month September to June. We look forward to helping you search for your patriot ancestor. Contact us to get the process going!

Who We Are
The Fort Nelson Chapter, NSDAR, was officically organized on May 9, 1896, at the home of Rebecca Marshall Nash, in Portsmouth, Virginia with 12 charter members. Mrs. Nash served as regent for the first 25 years.
INTERESTING FACT: The chapter house was constructed between September and December 1935. Mr. Jerome Carr, a member of the SAR, donated the house and lot in honor of his wife Martha Womble Carr, the 7th regent of the chapter. It was the first in the state built specifically for DAR use.
